Stray Cat Blues...!
I read with interest that both the Labour and Conservative party will introduce new animal laws should they be elected to office next year.
Not content with spying on how much refuse, and in what manner, we dispose of it etc., household pets are to be compulsory fitted with a microchip, containing the names etc., of the owners.
At the same time a national database is to be set-up to hold details of all of the dogs in the country, failure to 'chip' your pet will mean that you are introduced to a new game called 'Pelutho'. A South American game which entails whacking balls against a brick wall, with a stout wooden bat until the prisoner confesses, or voting for labour for another millenium.
Strangely enough, although this is an extension of 'big brother', I'm firmly in favour of the initiative. It will help to curb theft of pets, organised fighting, illegal breeding etc. But the real benefit of course (selfishly), is that if it works, the Spanish government will copy the idea, or Europe will adopt it, and we will see tangible benefit to our lives here in Spain.
If any Streetwise readers are interested in starting a campaign to introduce this legislation here, please get in touch. Alternatively if you know of any politician, local or national, who you think would benefit from trying out Pelutho, (instructions, in Spanish, on how to play are included), send their details on a plain postcard to the address below.
Welcome to October, welcome to Streetwise on-line.
